Hey Ram by some huge distance is my most favourite movie of all times. The directorial brilliance of the movie along with scintillating cast and extra-ordinary acting makes this film a legendary classic. I honestly don't think even Kamalahasan could emulate such a performance in his future movies. It is highly unfortunate that the movie did very badly in the box office which clearly is having an impact in Kamalahasan's following releases. Some of his recent movies are very mediocre and we are in huge danger of losing an classical artist. I only hope that some of his mundane movies give him much needed money to make a another epic that will shoot him up to the international stage. I sometimes even think he should bid adieu to Indian Films and try to act or direct in Hollywood movies. He is gross mis-fit in Indian Film Industry

It's certainly one of my all-time favourite movies too. In fact, I feel it's a lesson in film-making. If you ignore the minor flaws, what really worked against the movie was it went over most heads. The purpose of publishing an American professor's review was indeed to give an unbiased view.
However, I don't share your fear of Kamal slipping into mediocrity. What's happening now is only consolidation for his next big venture.
Also, Hollywood is another big, bad studio-based system. I guess what you mean is that he should make movies in English, which would reach a global audience. But our man seems determined to take Tamil movies to a global audience.
