More speculation

Dasavatharam is probably at the fag end of the shooting portion and moving into post-production. The news-hungry media continues in speculation mode, as authentic news about the movie and Kamal’s future plans is rare to come by. Shriya (of Sivaji fame) is said to have been contacted for his next movie and later dropped since she demanded very high remuneration. If that wasn’t enough, how about the sets of Dasavatharam being deserted because Kamal is not recognisable? Maybe, it’s time to be a little patient and chew on Kamal’s old classics till the new arrival is in.

What’s going on…

Kamal is up with flu. He’s not resting at home, but continuing to work on Dasavatharam so that the tsunami set can be used effectively. Sify.com too reports the news, with an overdose of speculation.

He also found time to grace the celebration of Pokkiri’s success and praised Vijay. A private party was hosted for Gowthami’s birthday at his house.

Felicitating Nagesh…

When Nagesh, one of Kamal’s favourites, was being felcitated, would he miss out? He was there, along with K Balachander, Cho, Vaali and MS Viswanathan. Some excerpts from The Hindu’s report:

“The only picture you can find in Kamal’s room is that of himself with Nagesh. He reveres him so,” Vaali (sic)…

“True,” said Kamal. “I watch his films seriously. I’m so much in awe that I forget to laugh. Such is my admiration. It’s not jealousy — only complete surrender to this great talent. ‘Crazy’ Mohan, a few other friends and I celebrate Nagesh almost every day at my office…Hindi film actor Mehmood once told me, he considers Nagesh his guru, whereas Amitabh gave Mehmood a similar status. So you see where the root actually is?” he smiled.

Also, check out some photos from Aaron Selvaraj.

PS: Sorry for reporting this a bit late. I was trying to get some photographs for using in this post, but didn’t succeed and ended up being late.

Kamal with Balki?

When Sridhar Sundaresan pointed me towards this rumour (in Tamil), I almost dismissed it as baseless. Now, it’s gathering momentum — check out ThatsTamil and Behindwoods. Balki, the director of the recently released Cheeni Kum (starring Amitaabh Bachchan and Tabu) is said to have got the opportunity to direct Kamal’s next movie. He had even declared on Rediff.com that Kamal is one of his favourite actors. While the idea seems to be a good one (compared to someone like P Vasu), we’ll still await word from Alwarpet.

Shruthi back in the news

Shruthi seems to be back — is it temporary? There’s news of her releasing an album and meeting MS Viswanathan with her father. She has also talked about her interests, including acting. We’re waiting to see you in action, Shruthi!

Update on 5 July: We even have some imaginative reporting to provide some variety — Shruthi not being able to recognise her father on the sets of Dasavatharam.

Dasavatharam & beyond

Bits and pieces of news about Dasavatharam and Kamal’s plans after that movie have been flying around.

The son of yesteryear veteran SV Sahasranamam will be playing Asin’s father in Dasavatharam. Kamal seems to continue his support for old-timers.

Meanwhile, Asin has spoken about her time on the sets:

“When I walked into the sets of Dasavatharam, I was really tense. I know only K S Ravikumar before. I thought it is a serious business with so many big names around. In contrast, working in Dasavatharam was really a fun. Sharing the screen with Kamal Haasan is a delight.”

Jayapradha too spoke about acting with Kamal:

“I accepted to act in Dasavatharam, since it was Kamalji’s film. He is one of the actors, whom I admire a lot. I watched him at very close quarters and admired him a lot. I readily agreed when Kamal Haasan approached me.”

On the other hand, rumours of P Vasu directing Kamal are becoming stronger. How about speculation of Sridevi being approached for this movie? Good to dream. There is also talk of Vasu himself and Rekha (of Kadaloara Kavidhaigal fame) acting in Dasavatharam.
