Kamal’s screenplays released as book
Kamal’s screenplays of Hey Ram and Mahanadhi are out as a book, not in Tamil, but in Malayalam! Titled Kamalhaasanda Rendu Thirakadhagal, the release was done in DC International Book Fair and Cultural Fest at Thiruvananthapuram.
The Hindu earlier published an interview with Kamal on the occasion, where he talks about his evolution as a writer. Though not in his own words, Marmayogi receives some confirmation here. Check out a different edition for a nice photo and also a report from Behindwoods.
While a screenplay being published as a book is common in Hollywood and elsewhere, it is good to see such things happening in India too. Hopefully, it will happen in the language of Kamal’s writings too sometime soon.

I am surprised that the 2 screenplay books r not released in TAMIL language. Because VIRUMANDI & HEY RAM r TAMIL language films. May we expect those 2 books soon.

Just when we thought that the movie with Rajni was just a rumour, there seems to be word from one of the horses’ mouths. In an interview to NDTV about release of the book, Kamal talks about it.

I vaguely remember seeing a Hey Ram screenplay (Tamil) in Landmark Chennai way back in 2000-01.

Yes, the screenplay of Hey! Ram was released in Tamil back in 2001 (I guess). I’ve a copy of the book. I bought it from New Book Lands, Chennai. I’m positive that one should be able to buy a copy from the same bookshop even now.

கேரள டி.சி. புக் நிறுவனம் நடத்தும் மூன்றாவது சர்வதேச புத்தகக் கண்காட்சியை திருவனந்தபுரத்தில் தொடங்கி வைத்த கமல்ஹாசன், தனது ஆசையை மீண்டும் ஒருமுறை உறுதி செய்தார்.
விழாவில் கமல்ஹாசனின் ‘மகாநதி’, ‘ஹேராம்’ படங்களின் திரைக்கதைகள் மலையாளத்தில் வெளியிடப்பட்டன. கேரளாவை தான் மதிப்பதாலேயே இந்தப் புத்தகங்களை மலையாளத்தில் வெளியிட சம்மதித்ததாக தனது உரையில் குறிப்பிட்டார் கமல்.
“என்னிடம் பலர் எப்போது ஓய்வு எடுத்துக் கொள்ள்ப் போகிறீர்கள் என கேட்கிறார்கள். இப்போதைக்கு நான் ஓய்வு எடுத்துக் கொள்வதாக இல்லை. ஓய்வு எடுப்பது என்று தீர்மானித்தால், கேரளாவில் அந்த நாட்களை செலவிடவே விரும்புகிறேன்” என்றார் கமல்.
மலையாளத்தின் சிறந்த எழுத்தாளர்களின் புத்தகங்களை வெளியிடும் நிறுவனம் டி.சி. புக் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.
