Kamal in Kuchelan?
After the many murmurs, it seems like the news is true — Kamal will be part of a bevy of stars featuring in Kuchelan. The news seems believable, considering that the movie is produced by his mentor, K Balachander’s production house. Kamal has provided guest appearances in many of his movies from Thillu Mullu to Paarthaale Paravasam. Speculation though ranges from Kamal shaking a leg with Rajni to presenting an award to the latter.

Just now, read the news in Indiaglitz that P Vasu has denied Kamal’s appearance in that movie. Neither will there be a song on the lines of OM Shanti OM.

IndiaGlitz report seems to confirm that this is just another rumour…

…i don’t want Kamal Haasan to be just another guest star in Kuselan….these fans of Rajnikanth say so many things against Kamal…they take him for granted..y should he go and act in a Rajni film..??will Rajni do the same for him…???….Kamal has been soo generous and accomadative to every single artist out there in Tamil cinema…its time for them to return the favor…may sound abrupt…but thats wat i think….

Gajen, it’s not just the fans of Rajni who say things about Kamal, but also the fans of Kamal who say things against Rajni. The point is, they don’t seem to have any obvious differences off the screen and what their fans think of both of them is not their business. Also, a true fan who appreciates cinema as an art form will only take what he wants and ignore the rest. People who talk for someone and talk trash against someone else are dumb-headed fanatics who can’t appreciate cinema as an art form. Hope that clears the misconception.

Krishnan,
It is true that I am not a great fan of Rajnikanth. Its not that I am throwing mud against or talking trash about him.Its just the fevour that Kamal should always be part of ‘artistic’ cinema.I doubt any film of Rajni has ever had class in it.The films of Rajnikanth always tend to be highly illogical, impractical and out of sync with real life, which I think is a statement which cannot be attributed to films of Kamal Haasan.I do not want to see a ‘method actor’ being part of a flick where the hero flies around as if he is a superhuman.I think what I am asking for is justifiable.I also hope that I have made my point clear.
Regards,
Gajen

Gajen, I’m a huge fan of Kamal Haasan. But I won’t say that I haven’t seen any of Rajni’s movies. Yes, they are illogical and impractical. But they are meant to be that way. Just imagine, if our people rejected Rajni’s masala entertainer type of movies outright, would he have continued to do such movies? No way. He, instead, would have concentrated on movies with good scripts. Kinda like what he did earlier - Mullum Malarum, Aarilirundhu Arubadhu Varai, Netrikann, etc. But the people rooted for mass entertainer movies from Rajni. So, he continues to do such movies.
As far as Kamal is concerned, everyone knows that he is a genius, a rare one. He is capable of doing roles that many other actors can’t even dream of doing. So, we, the fans, want him to do different movies with a lot of experimentation.
But even with Kamal, the story takes a turn. While his brilliant movies like Guna, Anbe Sivam, and Hey Ram get rejected, a crappy movie like Vasool Raja rakes in the moolah. Now, would you complain that Kamal sang duets and ran around trees in that movie? No way. Because, people, as dumb as they are, want our heroes to do such things.
The bottom line is this - Kamal is an artist and Rajni is an entertainer. The former doesn’t care much about business while the latter cares only about business. The former considers cinema an art form and the latter considers it an entertainment medium. I, as a true fan of cinema, always prefer the former over the latter.
