Dasavathaaram: tremendous response!
All kinds of media have been scampering to report about Dasavathaaram — be it in a positive angle and sometimes negative. The hype increased as the movie was making its way to the theatres. Yahoo, Sify.com, Dinamalar, Thatstamil, Galatta.com, Chennai 365, Chennai Online and KollywoodToday.com were among the contributors, sometimes exaggerating numbers and facts. Web-sites like IndiaGlitz featured photos of posters and banners around the city. and fans’ celebrations. The Hindu carried a couple of snippets on theatre happenings.
A news item on NDTV featured prominent fans, Muscat Kannan and Dr. Chandrasekar. The latter was featured in an article in The Hindu too. This piece also had a photo of Gautami celebrating the release with fans.
IndiaGlitz put up a videos of audience responses from Chennai, Hyderabad and Kerala (Thiruvanathapuram?). In Hyderabad, most of the coverage was at Prasad’s Multiplex. Some of the people who spoke seem to be VIPs. For Chennai, the action was at Mayajaal. The verdict is almost unanimous — “Adipoli“, “Chaala baagundhi“, “Super”!
Box-office results are also coming in slowly. The response has been superlative from Chennai ( Webdunia | Yahoo | Sify.com ) to UK and Malaysia to USA — basically everywhere (The Economic Times | Behindwoods). A report from Box Office Mojo seems to indicate that Dasavathaaram even made it to the top 10 movies in terms of overseas collections all over the world. Below is the weekly box-office report from CNN-IBN, which confirms the above.
There was also a report on KollywoodToday.com of many industry insiders being disappointed by the success of the movie.

I’m so happy. Finally, a blockbuster that has sealed every asshole’s mouth shut. All those guys who talked about Kamal being a non-entity in box office can line up, pucker up, and kiss my shiny ass now.

On the money Krishnan…on the money….This is what I was waiting for, for the last 5+years…people started writing Kamal off after Aalavandhan and also after Mumbai Express…This will propel him to where he really belongs….at the very top..!!!

The intersting thingy which even Kamal mentioned in the Hyderabad function is tat almost everyone wants to watch the movie twice.Here in singapore tats the feedback i am gettin.Its a great feat indeed and this would boost Kamal for Maramyogi and of cos his dream project which have almost became every indians dream..Marudaanayagam.Hopefully in abt 3 years time our films will be on par with the world cinema in terms of CGI,Make up EFX,camera works and all..I cant wait for tat day.

I am surprised to see this Vikatan info. For the first time it published a positive aspect about DASA. And also 2 page aritcle on CHAOS theory & Butterfly effect relating it with DASAVATHAARAM with 10 avathaar photos of KAMALJI.

Our kamal has proved to the world that he can do wonders at box office. Can any other actors can put up their performance (without punch dialogue and ugly styles)? I hope they will atleast try to do after watching our universal hero Dr kamalji.

Can anyone tell me how Dasavathaaram is performing at the box office?I am getting conflicting reports from my sources.Randie, Please do help me with this regard.Some say that its a huge succes in the States and in Malasiya, but others say that the box office collection is sinking.I am confused.What is going on?

In less than a week of trade analysis that presented a totally different picture – of Dasavatharam’s collections struggling to reach the earlier released Sivaji’s in the overseas market – this week reports suggest that Dasavatharam has outperformed Sivaji by a whopping $ 7,947,960.
By the end of second the week in the international market (excluding USA), Dasavatharam had made $11,653,212 as opposed to Sivaji that raked in $3,705,252 during the same duration. Kamal’s 10-act was placed at 11th position at the worldwide box-office rating. Reports from USA have also been very encouraging, putting the movie as one of the top grossing South Indian movies ever.
Third weekend results are awaited.
Distributors who hold the overseas rights are evidently kicked about the results and are excited about future prospects that look optimistic too.
