Protest for Srilankan Tamils
Srilankan Tamils are suffering under the onslaught of the Srilankan army and government. The politically-inclined Tamil film industry has geared up to protest against it. Similar to the Cauvery protests a few years ago, there has been much internal conflicts and confusion. Finally, the actors are set to stage a fast on November 1 in Chennai. Read reports from Behindwoods, Thatstamil, Dinathanthi and Dinamalar.
Kamal and Rajni are likely to participate. However, it is said that there will be no speeches this time (OneIndia). One would recall what happened at the last protest, for the Hogenakkal issue. Here’s more from Sify.com and IndiaGlitz.
The Srilankan Tamil problem was highlighted on the passing in Punnagai Mannan (1986), starring Kamal and directed by K Balachander, his mentor. There is also a rumour doing the rounds that Kamal once planned a full-fledged movie on the issue but was dissuaded from going ahead.

I am really sorry to say this. The only person who did something worthwhile for the SriLankan Tamilians and LTTE was MGR. The rest of the poilticians only bark. The present government could have granted the Tamilians an area of their own long back if they had gone a little further in putting more pressure on the Indian Central Govt and organiase protests.
The same politician who is today trying to potray himself as a Tamil Nationalist hero had immediately apologised after he wrote a praise verse on Tamizh Selvan after his death.
I don’t know why the whole world creates such a big fuss on Tamilians in Lanka demanding a seperate state. They have victimised and exploited for a long time by the SriLankan Govt. Didn’t the Eurpean nations and United States come together to seperate Yogoslovia into 3 different states? Doesnt Georgia which broke away from the Soviet Union have a very tiny population? And here we talk of a few million Tamilians as not having the justifications to demand a seperate state!
I am sure if they get a seperate state they will rule much better than the politicians of out Tamil Nadu!!! Real shame that even the Tamilian people don’t care about the atrocities inflicted upon SriLankan Tamilians!

Even though I am a Sri Lankan Tamil, I do not want Kamal Haasan to poke his head into politics.Thats the last thing he should do now.I am a diehard fan of him,as most of us are, and I doo not want him to dabble in politics unlike Rajnikanth. But in the case of Kamal he is too big a personality to get involved in this mess.Of course I want Tamil Nadu to pressurise the Indian Gov.Of course I want the Sri Lankan Gov to stop their ‘carpet bombings’.Of course I want this mess to be untangled. But never would I like to see Kamal IN the mess.He is an artist and NOT an opportunist like some so called ’super stars’

It is MY view.I did not ask anyone else to nod their heads in support.I am entitled to my point of view as you are to yours. And you ask me who I am to speak on Kamal?I am one of his ardent fans as are most of the people who read the posts here.Yous should realise, presuming you are a Kamal fan, that individuals have their own points of view. And you cannot/should not impose your views on others you know.
